Brigham Young University. Indian Education Dept.

The American Indian Education Department was organized in 1966 as a part of the General College and a formalized department following the American Indian Education Program. It was a department for both Indian students and those students preparing to work among Indian people. Claude B. Duerden (1966-1968) and Royce P. Flandro (1966-1973) served as faculty adviser and chairman, respectively.

Functions

The American Indian Education Department functioned to assist in preparing Indian college students for successful living and employment as well as students planning to work with Indian people. The programs listed under the department consisted of Vocational, Technical and semiprofessional, undergraduate and graduate. Each Indian student had the aid of an adviser to assist in working out each individual program.
