The Indian Education division within the College of Education was established in 1964. Its primary purpose was to serve as a coordinating body for education students interested in teaching Indian students on the elementary and secondary education levels. Dr. Royce Flandro served as an academic coordinator. In 1985 the division was abolished.

Functions

The Indian Education division of the College of Education functioned as a coordinating body for education students interested in teaching Indian students within the elementary or secondary school systems. The students would receive their elementary or secondary education teaching certificate while simultaneously taking courses on Indian culture that would prepare them for their student teaching experience within an Indian school.

Assets and Administrative Structure

The Indian Education division functioned under the authority of an academic coordinator from 1964-1973 who reported to the college dean. Beginning in 1973 the division functioned without an official coordinator and was under the direct supervision of the college dean.
