The Human Performance Research Center was founded in 1972 with Dr. Garth Fisher as its first director. The center became part of the College of Life Sciences in 2007. The Human Performance Research Center supports research programs of faculty and graduate students on topics regarding exercise, nutrition, diseases, and related topics. The center is composed of five laboratories used to gain greater understanding of human health, exercise, and injuries.

The center is headed by a director and run by exercise science faculty members. Since 2007, the center has been under the College of Life Sciences.
