In 1962 the Departments of Educational Administration, Educational Philosophy and Programs, and Educational Research and Services were combined to create the Graduate Department of Education. Department chairmen included: Keith R. Oakes (1962-1964), Robert L. Egbert (1964-1966), and Curtis Van Alfen (1968-1970).

Functions
The Graduate Department of Education offered graduate degrees at both the master's and doctoral levels. The Master of Arts, the Master of Education, and the Master of Science were offered. Additionally, both the Doctor of Education and the Doctor of Philosophy were offered by the department. The department sought to train individuals as administrators, business managers, supervisors, curriculum directors, educational psychologists, school psychologists, guidance counselors, and special education teachers for the field of education.
