The General College was established in the Fall of 1958. Those who served as deans of the college included Wayne B. Hales (1958-1964), Ernest C. Jeppsen (1964-1966), Lester Whetten (1966-1972), and C. Terry Warner (1972). In the summer of 1972 the General College changed its name to the College of General Studies.
