The Family and Demographic Research Institute was established within the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences in 1980. Institute Directors included: Howard Bahr (1980-1983)and Stephen Bahr (1983-1989)(Stephen Bahr served two three-year terms). The Family and Demographic Research Institute was abolished in 1989.

Functions

The Family and Demographic Research Institute functioned to obtain and disseminate information about different types of families, how they function, and how they are affected by various social processes. The goal of the Institute was to facilitate and conduct research on the social, psychological, emotional, and spiritual welfare of families.

Assets and Administrative Structure

The Family and Demographic Research Institute operated under a Director who reported to the Dean of the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences. The Director of the Institute was appointed to a tree-year term by the Dean. Operating decisions were made by an Executive Committee who were faculty members at BYU.
