The Family Research Center was established in 1972. In 1974 the Family Research Center became a part of the Research Division. Family Research Center Directors included: Wesley Burr (1974-1975) and Darwin Thomas (1975-1977). In 1977 the Center was renamed the Family Research Institute.

Functions

The Family Research Center functioned to promote research concerning the social-psychological, emotional, and spiritual welfare of the family. It had an interdisciplinary focus, utilizing personnel from the Colleges of Social Sciences and of Family Living. The Center sponsored long-term, ongoing research in three major areas: family socialization, children;s moral reasoning and behavior, and theory building.
