The European Studies Program was created in 1970 under the direction of the College of Social Sciences. In 1978 the program was placed under the direction of the World Affairs Center. In 1979 the program was then placed under the direction of the Center for International and Area Studies. Program coordinators included: Edwin B. Morrell (1970-1976), Douglas F. Tobler (1976-1979), Garold N. Davis (1980-1983).

Functions
The European Studies Program was an interdisciplinary program which provides for two majors or a major and minor combination leading to the B.A. degree. Studies included European culture, history, politics, and economics. It was designed to prepare students for careers and advanced study requiring a broad understanding of modern and contemporary Europe.
Assets and Administrative Structure
The program was administered by the program coordinator, under the direction of either the college dean or center director. The European Studies Program was associated with the College of Social Sciences from 1970 to 1978. From 1978 to 1979 the program was under the direction of the World Affairs Center and subsequently the Center for International and Area Studies from 1979 to 1983.
