The Elementary Laboratory School was formed in 1955 within the Laboratory School, which resided within the College of Education. The School was under the guidance of a principal for the years of 1955-1957 and 1962-68. In the intermediate years, it was under the guidance of a Director. The following have been principals: Morris A. Shirts (1955-1956), Hyrum J. Babcock (1956-1957), Vermont C. Harward (1962-1968). The following have been Directors: Avard A. Rigby (1957-1959) and Edwin A. Read (1959-1962). The School, along with the Laboratory program, was abolished in 1968.
