The Department of Zoology was established by the College of Biological and Agricultural Sciences in 1972. Department chairmen included: Joseph R. Murphy (1972-1975), Clive D. Jorgensen (1975-1981), Ferron L. Andersen (1981-1983), Richard W. Heninger (1983-1989), H. Duane Smith (1989- 1995), Richard R. Tolman (1995- 1999), and John D. Bell (1999-2002).
