The Department of Theatre, Speech and Cinema was part of the College of Fine Arts and Communications beginning in 1987. Previously, it was known as the Department of Theatre and Cinematic Arts. In 1988 it was renamed as the Department of Theatre and Film. The Department Chair was Harold R. Oaks (1987-1988)

Degrees offered are Film (BFA); Musical Dance Theatre (BFA); Film (B.A.); Speech (B.A.); Theatre Arts (B.A.); Theatre Arts Education (B.A.); Acting (MFA); Directing (MFA); Playwriting (MFA); Theatre Design and Technology (MFA); Theatre History, Theory, Criticism (M.A.); Motion Picture History, Theory, Criticism (M.A.); Child Drama (M.A.) and Theatre, and Cinema (Ph.D.)
