The Department of Sociology was placed in the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences in 1981. Previously it was called the Department of Sociology and Social Work and was part of the College of Social Sciences. The Department Chairs were: Bruce A. Chadwick (1981-1985); Stan L. Albrecht (1985-1986); James T. Duke (1986-1990); J. Lynn England (1990-1996); Stephen J. Bahr (1996-2001); Vaughn R. A. Call (2001-2007); Renata T. Forste (2007-present).

Functions

The general sociology track provides a broad liberal arts background for such areas as business, work within various social agencies, or preparation for marriage and parenthood. This track would also be helpful for those preparing to do further study in law, medicine, or dentistry.
