The Department of Recreation Management was established in 1979 when the Department of Recreation was abolished. It was a single department until 1981 when it was combined with the Department of Youth Leadership. Jay H. Naylor served as chairman for these few years.

Functions

The Department of Recreation Management functioned to prepare students to professionally assist and direct programs outlined to fill needs of individuals, families and other groups. Students were prepared to work in a variety of employment settings, including youth agencies, hospitals and nursing homes, and government agencies. Courses offered included Family Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, and Program Management.

The Department of Recreation Management functioned under the administration of a chairman under a college dean.
