The Dept. of Physical Education was established in 1920 when the Church Teacher College was split into two schools. One of the schools was the School of Arts and Sciences and it was to house the Dept. of Physical Education. The department was created to educate the students for wholesome and efficient living. To do this the department taught students how to establish correct motor habits and to conserve their health and vitality. Eugene L. Roberts was the Department Chairman and served in that position until 1921 when the School of Arts and Sciences was abolished. The department was then placed in the College of Arts and Sciences and retained the same functions.
