The Dept. of Physical Education was established in 1920 when the Church Teacher College was abolished and the department was placed in the new School of Arts and Sciences. Eugene L. Roberts was the Department Chairman and served in that position until the abolishment of the School of Arts and Sciences in 1921. The department was then placed in the College of Arts and Sciences and retained the same functions.
