The Department of Physical Education-Women was established in 1955 under the College of Recreation, Physical and Health Education, and Athletics and remained a part of this college until it was reorganized as the College of Physical Education. Leona Holbrook (1955-1972) and Phyllis Jacobsen (1972-1981) served as chairmen.
