The Department of Philosophy was first created as a separate department in 1969. Up until this time, philosophical studies had been included into the areas of Church history and theology. The following individuals have served as chairman: Chauncey C. Riddle (1969-1970), C. Terry Warner (1970-1972), Noel B. Reynolds (1972-1976), Dennis Rasmussen (1976-1977, 2001-), K. Codell Carter (1977-1984, 1995-2001), Dennis J. Packard (1984-1990), and James E. Faulconer (1990-1995).
