After Brigham Young Academy in Provo, Utah became an university, academics were separated into three areas, the College, the Normal School and the High School. The Department of Natural Science was organized in 1905 under the College, a result of the earlier division of the Department of Sciences. In 1908 the Department of Natural Sciences was also divided, forming the Department of Biology and the Department of Geological Science.
