The Department of Minority Education was established within the College of General Studies in 1978. In 1981 the unit merged with Indian Education to form Multicultural Education.

The Department specialized in providing individualized advisement and academic support for minority students.

The Department of Minority Education was under the direction of the College of General Studies. In 1978 it was transferred to Nonmajor Programs in Student Life.
