The Department of Mechanical Engineering was placed in the College of Engineering Sciences and Technology in 1977. Previously it was within the College of Physical and Engineering Sciences. The Acting Department Chair for the 1977-1978 academic year was Blaine W. Andersen. The Department Chairs were: Blaine W. Andersen (1978-1982) and Joseph C. Free (1982-1984). In 1984 the college was renamed the College of Engineering and Technology and the Department of Mechanical Engineering was within that college.

Functions

To provide courses in applied science that deal with the analysis, design, development, fabrication, and application of products that are predominately mechanical. By its very nature, mechanical engineering includes many varieties of specialization. All students are provided with a central core of engineering fundamentals.
