After Brigham Young Academy in Provo, Utah became an university, academics were separated into three areas, the College, the Normal School and the High School. The Department of Mathematics was organized in 1904 under the College. While the College was renamed the Church Teachers College in 1909, the Department of Mathematics retained its name.

Functions

The Department of Mathematics was responsible for the teaching of courses in Algebra and Higher Mathematics.

Assets and Administrative Structure

The Department of Mathematics was part of the College, the higher-education branch of Brigham Young University. Ernest D. Partridge served as department chairman in 1906, with William F. Ward replacing Partridge in 1907; Ward served as chair until 1910.
