Then in 1953, the department split into the Dept. of Philosophy and History of Education and the Dept. of Personnel and Guidance.

In 1953, the Department of Library Science was created in the College of Education. As a very small department, it only taught the coursework for books and libraries, and library science for teachers and administrators. In 1955, the department is abolished and is listed just as a library science program. Naoma Rich served as department chair from 1953 to 1955.
