In 1935 the College of Applied Science established the department of Landscape Architecture. Laval S. Morris served as department chairman from 1935 to 1940.

The Department of Landscape Architecture included course on elementary landscape architecture, elements of drawing, herbaceous plant materials, trees and shrubs, history and literature of landscape architecture, landscape design, city planning, architectural design, landscape engineering and construction, recreational planning, and planting design.
