In 1964 International Relations was an interdisciplinary program within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Department of International Relations was placed in the College of Social Sciences in 1965. The Coordinators were: Ray C. Hillam (1966-1976); Richard S. Beal (1976-1979; 1980-1981); and Stan A. Taylor (1979-1980).

Functions

The program was designed to prepare the student for a career or for advanced study in international relations. To enable the student to compete more effectively for a career in the foreign service, both public and private, students were introduced to the study of intercultural relations and international politics in fields such as anthropology, psychology, sociology, geography, history, economics, and political science.

The Department of International Relations was a department under the direction of a coordinator who reported directly to the dean of the college.
