In 1904, the Department of Household Economics was established in the School of Arts and Industries of Brigham Young University. It taught several courses with aim of training students in the domestic sciences and domestic arts. In 1906, the School of Arts and Industries was renamed the School of Arts and Trades; the department's name and coursework remained the same. The School of Arts and Trades was abolished in 1909, and its departments were absorbed by the Brigham Young High School.
