In 1954 the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture was renamed the Department of Horticulture and Horticultural Specialties. The Department of Horticulture and Horticultural Specialties included courses on fruit production, vegetable production, beautifying the home grounds, floriculture, flower arrangement, architectural drawing, plant propagation, practical orchard management, herbaceous plants, woody plants, nursery practice, greenhouse management, turf management, landscape design, planting design, systematic pomology, harvesting and storage of fruits, weeds and seed analysis, plant breeding, plant pathology, and diseases of cultivated fruits.
