The Department of History was placed in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in 1954. It was previously in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department Chairs were: Russel B. Swensen (1954-1955); Richard D. Poll (1955-1958); Eugene E. Campbell (1958-1959 and 1960-1965). In 1965 the Department of History was part of the College of Social Sciences.
