The Department of Genealogy was established in 1962 as a two-year program under the supervision of E.C. Jeppsen within the Technical and Semi-Professional Institute. When the Technical and Semi-Professional Institute was abolished in 1964, the department was placed in the College of Industrial and Technical Education, under the supervision of Norman E. Wright. In 1967 the first four-year program was offered. In 1972, the Associate's and Baccalaureate degrees were discontinued, however instruction still continued. In 1973, with the dissolution of the College of Industrial and Technical Education, the Department was transferred to the College of Social Science. The Department was absorbed into the Department of Family and Local History in 1978.
