The Department of Exercise Sciences was established in 2005 when the Department of Physical Education was reorganized and abolished. It contains many of the same goals and options as did the Department of Physical Education. Ruel M. Barker (2005-2006) and Larry T. Hall (2006- ) have served as chairmen.

There are several different programs or emphases available under the Department of Exercise Sciences. Among these are Athletic Training Emphasis, Exercise Science Emphasis, Fitness and Wellness Management Emphasis, and a Physical Education K-12 Teaching/Coaching Emphasis.
