The Department of Elementary Education was reorganized in 1972 when the Department of Education separated into both new and former departments. Max J. Berryessa served as department chair from 1972 to 1973, with Floyd Sucher from 1974 to 1977, and James E. Baird from 1982 to 19 .

Functions

The Department of Education was organized to develop effective and capable teachers. The department trained in three areas: special education, elementary education, and secondary education. The department also provided graduate degrees including: the Master's of Arts, Master of Education, Doctor of Education, and Doctor of Philosophy.
