The Dept. of Educational Leadership was created in 1986 within the College of Education. Chairmen included: F. Del Wasden (1986-1989) and Ivan Muse (1991-1997). The department was renamed Educational Leadership and Foundations in 1997 and placed within the David O. McKay School of Education.

Functions

The programs administered within the department were designed to prepare educational leaders for private and public, lower and higher educational institutions; as well as providing preparation to receive the state administrative certification for leaders in public schools. In 1986, the department offered a MeD in Community Education Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, and Public School Leadership; an EdS in Community Education Leadership and Public School Leadership; an EdD in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, Public School Leadership, and Higher Education; and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, and Higher Education. In 1987, the department offered the following degrees: Med in Leadership in Administration and Leadership in Curriculum and Instruction; EdD in Leadership in Administration, Leadership in Curriculum and Instruction, and Public and Private Schools, and Higher Education; PhD in Leadership in Administration, Leadership in Curriculum and Instruction, Public and Private Schools, and Higher Education. In 1992, the department changed its degree offering to: MeD, EdD, and PhD in Educational Leadership.
