The Department of Education replaced the Department of Teacher Education and the Graduate Department of Education in 1970; assuming the programs of each department respectively. Curtis Van Alfen served as department chair from 1970 to 1972.

Functions

The Department of Education was organized to develop effective and capable teachers. The department trained in three areas: special education, elementary education, and secondary education. The department also provided graduate degrees including: the Master's of Arts, Master of Education, Doctor of Education, and Doctor of Philosophy.
