In 1947, the College of Education created a new department with an amalgam of coursework from several other departments in the college and named it the Department of Education. Its coursework served to cover a general study in education and included the social foundations of education, statistics, general school organization and administration, educational psychology, safety education, tests & measurements, audio visual instruction, and character education. In 1955, the department was dissolved and its coursework absorbed by the Department of Educational Research and Services, the Department of Instruction, and the Department of Educational Administration.
