The Dept. of Economics and Sociology was established and made a department within the School of Arts and Sciences in 1920 when the Church Teachers College was split. Russell Swenson was appointed as the Department Chairman and served in the position until the abolition of the School of Arts and Sciences in 1921. The department was then split into the Dept. of Economics and Dept. of Sociology and each was placed in the College of Arts and Sciences.
