The Department of Classical, Biblical, and Middle Eastern Languages was created in 1972 out of the previous Department of Classical and Asian Languages. J. Ruben Clark III 1972 to 1975 and R. Douglas Phillips from 1975 to 1976.

The Department of Classical, Biblical, and Middle Eastern Languages offers instruction in Classical Civilization and in the following languages: Akkadian, Arabic, Aramaic, Coptic, Egyptian, Greek, Hebrew, Latin, Syriac, Turkish, and Ugaritic.
