In 1984-1985 the college was renamed the College of Engineering and Technology and the Department of Chemical Engineering was within that college until 2004 when the college was renamed the Ira A. Functions

To offer professional training leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Master of Science (M.S.), Master of Engineering (M.E.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The curriculum is accredited by the Engineers' Council for Professional Development and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. The department also provides training leading to the two-year Associate of Science degree as a chemical-engineering technician.
