The Department of Chemical Engineering was placed in the College of Engineering Sciences and Technology in 1977-1978. Previously it was within the College of Physical and Engineering Sciences. Acting Department Chair for 1977-1978 was Dee H. Baker. The Department Chairs were: Dee H. Barker (1978-1979)and Richard W. Hanks (1979-1984). In 1984-1985 the college was renamed the College of Engineering and Technology and the Department of Chemical Engineering was within that college.

Functions

To offer professional training leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Master of Science (M.S.), Master of Engineering (M.E.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The curriculum is accredited by the Engineers' Council for Professional Development and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. The department also provides training leading to the two-year Associate of Science degree as a chemical-engineering technician.
