The Dept. of Business Management was created in 1954 to produce effective business managers. Curriculum focused on analysis of problems in business, make reasoned decisions, communicate effectively, and implement policy. Richard L. Smith served as department chairman from 1954 to 1956. The department was eventually disbanded and split into two departments: the Dept. of Industrial Management and the Department of Business Education and Office management.

The Dept. of Business Management included classes on business and economic statistics, managerial control, industrial management, business report writing, public relations, problems in management, principles of risk bearing, office organization and management, labor problems, personnel management, industrial psychology, business psychology, personnel psychology, business contract, and administrative policy.
