The Department of Anthropology was renamed from the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology in 1980 and in 1981 was moved from the College of Social Sciences to the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences. The following have been department chairs: John L. Sorenson (1980-1987), Donald W. Forsyth (1987-1993), John P. Hawkins (1993-1999), Joel C. Janetski (1999-2006), and David P. Crandall (2006- ).
