Functions
The Department of Aerospace Studies functioned as a voluntary program designed to produce highly qualified commissioned officers for the U.S. Air Force. The aerospace studies courses supplemented a student's academic major and were designed to to teach principles and techniques of leadership and management in preparation for service as a commissioned officer in the air force and as a leader in civic and community affairs. Along with the courses in the minor, students were required to undergo field training at an air force bases, a flight instruction program was offered.

The Department of Aerospace Studies was under the direct supervision of regular officers of the United States Air Force. The department was associated with a number of colleges during its history, including the College of Physical and Engineering Sciences (1966-1968), the College of Industrial and Technical Education (1968-1973), the College of General Studies (1973-1987), and the School of Management (1987-1989).
