Brigham Young University. Council of the Graduate School
The Council of the Graduate School was formally established in 1946. It was organized as an administrative body for the Graduate School and worked closely with the Dean of the Graduate School and the President of the University. It was renamed The General Committee of the Graduate School in 1950.

Functions
The functions of the Council of the Graduate School are to fix the conditions for admission to the School, to administer the requirements for the degrees offered, to admit students to candidacy for degrees, to supervise the conduct of examinations for degrees, to grant graduate fellowships, scholarships, and other stipends, and to perform all other functions and duties which pertain to the administration of graduate work in the University.
Assets and Administrative Structure
The University Council consists of the President of the University and the Dean of the Graduate School who are ex-officio members, and nine other faculty members who are appointed by the President. The Dean is the administrative officer of the Council.
