The College of Industrial and Technical Education was officially established in 1966, after ninety-one years of existence as a struggling program. The college was the first of its kind to be officially recognized by the National Engineers' Council for Professional Development. Ernest C. Jeppsen served as dean.

Functions
The College of Industrial and Technical Education offered a two-year associate degree, a four-year baccalaureate degree, and five-year master's degree programs. Four-year programs were available in design and graphics technology, electronics technology, and manufacturing technology.
