The College of Commerce reorganized the Department of Secretarial Practice and created the Department of Secretarial Training in 1951. The department was lead by the following chairmen: Evan M. Croft (1951-54), and Lars G. Crandall (1955-56).

The Department of Secretarial Training was responsible for the teaching of courses on the classes of elementary shorthand, elementary shorthand dictation, shorthand theory review and speed building, shorthand speed building and transcription, elementary typewriting, typewriting speed building, mechanical business letters and forms, office machines, business English, principles of marketing, business correspondence and report writing, advanced shorthand transcription and speed building, advanced shorthand speed building and reporting, office techniques, secretarial procedures, office organization and management, personnel administration, fundamentals of business education, court reporting, and methods of teaching typewriting, shorthand, and book-keeping.
