The Center for Studies of the Family was established in 1990 as a part of the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences to research and develop programs to strengthen families. The Center researched the characteristics of a strong family, in its personal, social, and institutional contexts. It helped organizations design and implement programs to aid couples and individuals to strengthen families and prevent severe family problems, including family violence, child abuse and neglect, divorce, financial mismanagement, and substance abuse. It also discussed and developed public policies that strengthen families.
