In 1980, the Statistical Laboratory's name changed to the Center for Statistical and Computing Research. As a Center, it was run by a director rather than a coordinator, but retained the functions of the Statistical Laboratory and remained a direct part of the Statistics Department. It was established in its current location, 223 TMCB, in 1981. In 1997, it became the Center for Statistical Consultation and Collaborative Research. Its directors included: Wayne Larson (1980-1981 or 1982), Gale Rex Bryce (1983-1984), Howard Campbell (1984-1986), H. Gill Hilton (1986-1995), and Leland J. Hendrix (1996-1997).

Functions

The Center provided assistance with statistical research by helping design and interpret experiments and survey sampling plans for projects with the potential to be published. The Center was used primarily by faculty and graduate students from all departments, and received some contracts from outside the University. The Center also offered valuable consulting work experience to graduate students within the Statistics Department.
