Brigham Young University. Center for International and Area Studies

The Center for International and Area Studies was an academic area within the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences in cooperation with the College of Humanities in 1981. The Center had the following areas of focus in 1981: American Studies, Asian Studies, European Studies, Intercultural Communications, International Relations, Latin American Studies, Mexican-American Studies, and Near Eastern Studies. Canadian Studies was added in 1982 and Intercultural Communications was removed in 1983. The Director was Stan A. Taylor (1981-1984). In 1984 the Center for International and Area Studies becomes the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies.

Functions

To provide programs designed to create greater sensitivity and understanding of the world in which we live. These programs meet the needs of those students interested in liberal education as well as those interested in international careers in business, law governments, and international institutions.

Assets and Administrative Structure

The Center for International and Area Studies is jointly sponsored by the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences and the College of Humanities. Religious Instruction joins in the sponsorship of the Near Eastern Studies Program. It is lead by a Director.
