The Center for Family and Community History is administered in cooperation with the Department of History within the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences. The Director was G. Wesley Johnson (1988-1990). The Center was previously known as the Family and Community History Center. It was abolished in 1990.

Functions

Charged with supervision of four major areas of history: genealogy, and family, community, and public history. It administers, in cooperation with the Department of History, academic programs for the A.A., B.A., and M.A. degrees. It also has responsibility for developing public service programs, organizing conferences and lecture series, sponsoring basic and applied research, and maintaining a scholarly publications program. The center seeks to stimulate research on genealogical and family and community history topics by the entire university community, and it has limited research funds to assist qualified researchers.
