The Center for Environmental Studies was established in 1970. Coordinators include: Doral Allred (1970-1973) and Vernon Tipton (1973-1974). The Center was renamed in 1974 to the Center for Health and Environmental Studies.

Functions

The principal objective of the center was to improve the quality of a man's environment through research, training, and public information. This involves fostering and coordinating projects dealing with the monitoring, restoration, and maintenance of environmental quality in selected areas. The center was also involved in the instruction of students in environmental studies.

Assets and Administrative Structure

Originally the center was run by a coordinator who reported to the dean of the College of Biological and Agricultural Sciences. However, in 1972 the center was run by a coordinator who reported to the director of the Research Division as well as the dean of the College of Biological and Agricultural Sciences.
