The Center for Business and Economic Research was established on September 1, 1969 under the direction of Dr. Merril J. Bateman. In 1972, Bateman was succeeded by Dr. Martin J. Wistisen who reevaluated the center objectives and outlined three new purposes. These were to promote basic academic research, create educational opportunities for students, and to give community service.
