Established in 1979, the Cancer Research Center is involved in the search for the cure for cancer and new methods of treatment. Directors have included: Roland K. Robbins (1979-1986), John H. Mangum (1986-1991), Byron K. Murray (1991-1996), Daniel L. Simmons (1996-).

Functions
A primary goal of the Cancer Research Center is to provide a rigorous research training program for students. The Center also fund-raises to conduct labs, workshops, and seminars. The Center also organizes the annual Rex Lee Run.

The Center is administered by a director who reports to the Dean of the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and the Dean of the College of Life Sciences.
